Weve gotten a frustrating quantity of rain up until now this year, about 2 1/4 inches overall according to my rain gauge. Weve gotten several storms however no big “gully-washers” yet. Ideally theyre coming quickly, January is normally a damp month. On a current bike trip I noticed the hills are turning.
The turf in flatter pastureland is already a gorgeous velvet green:
A lovely cattle ranch off Willow Springs Road
And the hillsides are simply starting to turn:
There is likewise still some late fall color, like in this little vineyard:
A fun thing around here is that for a quick time in January it can seem like fall and spring at the very same time. There is some fall color left, however some early plants are beginning to flower, like Bailey Acacias (Acacia baileyana). Ill try to get some photos of that on future getaways.
